One of the masters of pâte de foute is Gabriel Argy Rousseau. His technique was very demanding and labor intensive and on a small scale. Pâte de foute is a glass technique known from the ancient Egyptians and explored by a number of French artists at the end of the 19th century. A glass paste is baked in a mold and the mold is filled with colored glass powders. The painterly effect with the often translucent colors is unique. This coupe is very rare. It was difficult to make and shows with one flaw how problematic that was. During production the coupe was split in two and fused together again. that ragged line is visible.
