Large bronze vase by Hugo Elmqvist from Stockholm. His vases are very close to the Japanese vases he was inspired by. Not only the shape of the vase but also the realistic low-relief decoration with plants and insects are purely Japanese inspired. Elmqvist cast his vases himself and had his own patent for making his molds with fine river sludge clay. This technique allowed him to cast in super detailed form without using the cire perdue technique. The patina with iron oxide is also beautifully painted.
