Gothic lacework, crowned with winged dragons, stands out against a midnight blue sky. The artists of the aesthetic movement also wanted to return to the Middle Ages, and that was in fact the prelude to the ideas of Art Nouveau, in which artists wanted to create traditional, pre-industrial, meaningful work. Early Art Nouveau certainly ties in with the Gothic in terms of its use of lines and formal language. Wooden box lined on the inside with silk and on the outside with pressed polychromed and gilded leather.
