Pierre D'Avesn , designed a number of famous vases for René Lalique , and this lion vase is the most famous vase he released under his own name. The thick black glass is blown into shape with compressed air, then etched matt and partly polished again and colored with an English red patina in the deeper matte parts. The lion and lioness walk quietly around in a beautifully stylized manner.
