Very rare and large vase from 1900 by Zsolnay. The design is by their most famous artist; Lajos Mack. It depicts a woman in a long robe and with long hair blowing in the wind, clinging to a rock wall against which the wild waves are splashing. A theme that we often encounter in Art Nouveau. It is the search for stability in a time around 1900 in which the world changed significantly. At the 2021 exhibition Goddesses of Art Nouveau in the Allard Pierson Museum in Amsterdam, a separate room was dedicated to this. Zsolnay's eosin glaze is world famous and this is an exceptionally large example in perfect condition.
