This cloisonné enamel-glazing technique is very well known by Paul Millet. It produces beautiful deep colors because the "dykes" technique allows the transparent glaze to be applied thickly. The use of gold leaf under the glaze further enhances this brilliant effect. The colors of the pheasant, the golden sky and the flowers, everything points to a heavenly scene. But the vicious attack of the bird of prey tears the paradise state apart. It is, as it were, the effect of the Fall in nature.
