Rare early vase by Clement Massier, dated 1886. This vase represents the first year of experiments in which Clement Massier looked for luster glaze like an alchemist. He knew those metallic glazes from Persian ceramics, from Hispano-Moresque ceramics and also from Renaissance Italian ceramics, and was looking for the recipe. Together with Gaziëllo and a little later with Luciën Levy, he became world famous for his discovery of the reflets metallique glaze.
